ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited (OTPC) alongwith Assam Power and Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) formed a Joint Venture Company named “New and Green Energy of Assam Limited” (NGEAL) in 51:49 Equity share structure with a view to set up Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Assam up to 250 MW/500 MWh in phases – 1st Phase: 25MW/50MWh. The purpose of BESS project is to overcome the acute shortage of power during peak load hours faced by APDCL. BESS would store surplus energy available with APDCL during day time and discharge stored energy during peak load hours in the morning and evening.
