Mr. Satyan Kumar is a seasoned energy sector professional with over 36 years of extensive experience across the oil and gas value chain, including upstream operations, midstream, petrochemicals, corporate strategy, and renewable energy. An Electrical Engineering graduate from Dayalbagh Educational Institution, Agra, he also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from MDI Gurgaon and has undergone advanced leadership training at ESCP-EAP, France.
Over the course of his distinguished career at ONGC, Shri Kumar has held several key leadership positions spanning engineering, project management, operations, marketing, business development and corporate strategy. As Executive Director – Chief Corporate Strategy, he played a pivotal role in shaping ONGC’s long-term strategic roadmap, including diversification into petrochemicals, LNG, and green energy. He also drove innovation through venture investments in startups and facilitated the creation and running of an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) with a seed corpus of ₹300 crore.
He has led and delivered several large-scale and critical infrastructure / BD projects, including the captive power plants at Uran, OpaL and Hazira and the 103 km Hazira–Dahej naphtha pipeline. He has been instrumental in driving cost optimization while enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and profitability across multiple ONGC assets. He also played a key role in the development of ONGC’s first 15 MW utility-scale solar project from concept to commissioning. Notably, he has been at the forefront of ONGC’s entry into renewable energy, driving solar and wind initiatives in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
He is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ONGC Green Limited (OGL) and has been appointed as the Chairman of ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC). In these roles, he will provide leadership oversight in the power generation business along with continues to spearhead ONGC’s strategic expansion into renewable and sustainable energy. He also serves as Director on the Boards of ONGPL, OGL One Ltd. and Ayana Renewable Power Pvt. Ltd., and leads investments and business development initiatives across solar, wind, biofuels (CBG) and other emerging green energy domains.
Recognized for his strategic vision, execution excellence, capital discipline, digital oversight and leadership in the E&P value chain and energy transition, Shri Satyan Kumar continues to play a pivotal role in positioning ONGC as an integrated energy company aligned with India’s evolving energy landscape and sustainability goals, while addressing the energy trilemma of security, affordability, and sustainability.
